A little fibre information
|
- Alpaca is silky, soft, supple and smooth to the touch. It is
prized for its unique silky feel and luxurious handle.
- Alpaca provides warmth without weight. This splendid fine – gauge
yarn is over three times stronger than wool and has a thermal value
seven times as great.

- Alpaca fibre is unusually strong and resilient. The strength of
the fibre does not diminish as it becomes finer, thus making it ideal
for industrial processing.
- Alpaca is found in 22 distinct colours, which can be blended into
an infinite array of natural shades.
|
|
 |
- Raised at high altitudes with extreme temperature variations, the
Alpaca has developed more thermal capacity in its fibre than almost
any other animal. Alpaca fibre contains microscopic air pockets, which
create lightweight garments with very high insulation properties.
- Alpacas produce a beautiful fine fibre with an absence of guard
hair in their prime fleece. Most people can comfortably wear pure
alpaca sweaters next to their skin.
- Alpaca garments have a high visual appearance due to the rich
natural lustre of the alpaca fibre. It is also a fibre that is easily
dyed.
|
- People who own Alpaca sweaters will find they last for a very long
time and will retain their shape for many years. The alpaca fibre does
not easily tear, pill, stain or create static. It is easily cleaned
and cared for.

- Alpaca is easier and less expensive to process than sheep’s wool
due to its lack of lanolin and grease, and Alpaca does not have to be
de-haired like cashmere or camel.
- Alpaca fibre is highly sought after by the textile producers of
Europe and Japan. Today, alpaca graces fashion collections around the
world: Frankfurt, Florence, Paris, London, New York, Milan and Tokyo.
